Greater Landover Club and Healthy Kinder, Inc. Share Holiday Joy With Kids And Seniors
by Doris Rogers Montgomery

On Saturday December 12th, 2008 Healthy Kinder, Inc. sponsored a holiday celebration with Kiwanis Club of Greater Landover to share a little holiday spirit with children and seniors at Victory House of Palmer Park in Landover Maryland. In attendance were Regional Trustee, Past Lt. Governor, Doris Rogers Montgomery, President of Greater Landover Club, Doris Johnson and Dr. Astril Webb, Chair of the Childhood Obesity Initiative Committee for Division 1. Warm heartfelt smiles, sounds of children caroling, sharing of gifts and steel pan holiday music from a DC Panjammers soloist, were the highlights of this festive hour. Senior residents were happy to listen to the carolers and enjoyed the joyous sounds of the Christmas holiday. Healthy Kinder, Inc. will also spread a little joy to local needy families and shelters in Prince George's county. Through its "Toys for Kids" program, donated gifts from many generous sponsors throughout the National Capital Area will help many families. According to Dr. Webb, President of Healthy Kinder, many children will have a wonderful holiday season because of the kindness and compassion of these community members who desire to make a world of difference for our children. At the end of the program children were encouraged to bring in the New Year with the resolution to live a healthy lifestyle. In 2009 Healthy Kinder plans to continue to increase public awareness about childhood obesity and increase the number of its after-school and community based programs to address this major health epidemic in the metropolitan area. Kiwanians are sure to be there and continue to support this important work.
