Staunton
Club Holds K Family Day, Plays Disk Golf
by Lucinda Cooke
In November, members of the Staunton Kiwanis Club and their
Sponsored Youth CKI Club at Mary Baldwin College got together
for a Kiwanis Family Day for fellowship and a round of Disk
Golf at Staunton's Montgomery Hall Park. The Kiwanis Disk
Golf Kourse was organized several years ago by the Staunton
club and the Park and Recreation Department as a means to
attract families and groups to the park for a different kind
of outdoor activity. Disk Golf is played with a specially
designed Frisbee-like disk which is thrown over a course
that is set up much like a golf course and is scored like
golf. The disk ultimately ends up in a low basket. Since
the course opened, it has attracted tens of thousands of
players and is a popular location for tournaments. Although
Staunton club members and CKI members were novices at the
sport, they enjoyed the day with a good deal of coaching
from an expert and a lot of laughs along the way.
