The Kiwanis Club of Annapolis recently held its installation dinner with the induction of new officers for 2010/11. Marnie Fallon, LT. Gov of 14th Division, conducted the de-installation of past officers and Board and then the installation of the following:
Gisela Pegram - President
Gil Allen - President Elect
Lynn Marra - Secretary
Dave Grimm - Treasurer.
The club continues its support of local charities, the Broadneck HS Key Club, serving dinner at the Lighthouse Shelter for the homeless and is one of the primary participants in the Friends of Arundel Seniors (FOAS) by installing safety equipment in the homes of seniors and handicapped.
The Kiwanis Club of Mercury 64 celebrated the 48th anniversary of its chartering by establishing the E.Frank Dulong Scholarship. This annual $500 grant will go to a Hampton, Virginia School System teacher's assistant who is in Hampton's 'First Step' program. First Step aids those working in the school system who aspire to become teachers. Pictured above are Sara Sager, Mercury 64 President, and E. Frank Dulong.
The Parkville Kiwanis hosted the official visit of Governor Tom Varner to the Mason-Dixon Region on Friday, October 8. Clubs from the 9th, 12th, and 14th Divisions were present for a chicken dinner, remarks from the Governor, and entertainment by Steve Gambrill, a magician, puppeteer, and "The Extreme Balloon Man." The 80+ attendees paused for a moment of silence in memory of President Clarence Barnes from the Pikesville Club, who recently passed. Special guests included: Lt. Gov. Renee Mackey from Division 9, Lt. Gov. Adam Paul from Division 12, and Lt. Gov. Marnie Fallon from Division 14. We also welcomed Past International Trustee - Past Gov. "Dig" DeGarmo, Past Gov. Don Dudey, and Mason-Dixon Region Trustee, Bill Hand. An enjoyable time was had by all!
The Kiwanis Club of the Colonial recently installed a new president. Outgoing president Chuck Lyon passed the gavel to the new president Art Kohler (on the left).
Dover Kiwanis Club President Joyce Thompson (pictured right) recently honored Club member Claude Marks (left) by naming him Kiwanian of the Year. Mr. Marks has worked diligently to increase Club funds through increased utilization of the Club's mobile concession stand. He also participates in every service project sponsored by the Club. Kiwanis is an international service club dedicated to improving the lives of children. Adults of all ages are encouraged to join the service club by contacting Joyce Thompson at 678-2753.
The Kiwanis Club of South Arlington is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a new Key Club at the Arlington Mill High School Continuation Program.
The Arlington Mill High School Continuation Program offers students an alternative way to earn a high school diploma. Although students are responsible for the same course requirements, number of credits, and SOL assessment verification as students in the comprehensive high schools; the program offers flexibility in the way and timeframe in which students can earn a high school diploma.
The Kiwanis Club of South Arlington has moved its bimonthly Luncheon Club meetings from the Officer's Club at Fort Myer to Busboys and Poets. The restaurant is located in Shirlington, at 4251 South Campbell Ave, Arlington, VA 22206 (703) 379-9756.
We will continue to meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 11:30 AM. As the county library is closed on Thursdays, free and plentiful parking is available in the enclosed garage across the street from the restaurant.
On Tuesday, October 12, 2010 the Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown marked it's 75th year of serving its community at it's Charter Night. Through its dedicated members, the Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown has sponsored many children's programs in the area, as well as helped needy families throughout their many years of service. Tabb Kiwanis Club was established in 2003 to enhance our community , especially its children. The Club service projects include Books for Babies, Books for Breakfast, tutoring at elementary school, cleaning Chesapeake Bay, helping out at Lackey Clinic, sponsoring leadership programs at schools to help young people develop self esteem , leadership skills, and respect for others.
