Kiwanis Club of Frederick

Dr. Jeffrey DesChamps, Chiropractor, of Frederick, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Dr. DesChamps spoke to the group about "scoliosis". He discussed the causes, diagnosis, and options available in treating curved bones in the spinal area. He also told how scoliosis affects more women than men. Dr. DesChamps also spoke about people suffering from the dizzy feeling of vertigo. He told of some of the new procedures being used in helping to correct this feeling of improper balance and equilibrium. Kiwanian Sue Vona is with the speaker.


Tommy Grunwell was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club Frederick. Grunwell spoke to the group about the "Batle Field Memorial" which is now at the Reserve Center. The memorial was created to honor those killed in action. Mr. Grunwell talked to the club about the long process that was involved in the creation and design of the memorial and talked about the artist that created it. Kiwanian Sue Vona is with the speaker.


Dr. James Merkel, Financial Advisor, Vice President, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Dr. Merkel also was instrumental in the founding of the St. Thomas More Academy, an independent Catholic elementary school that offers a Classical Liberal Arts Education. He spoke to the club on "where we are", cost of eduction, and how well our kids are doing in Math and Science and how at the present time the US is 18th in the world in these two categories. He spoke about the cost per student and addressed several areas where money could be saved and transferred to the kids' education. Kiwanian Sue Vona is with the speaker.


The Kiwanis Club of Frederick held their installation of new officers and directors for the coming 2010-2011 year on October 5 at Homewood at Crumland Farms on Willow Road in the main dining room. Conducting the ceremony, but not pictured, was Donna Ohler, Past Lieutenant Governor of the 9th Division of the Kiwanis Capitol District.
