Politicians, Feasters Turn Out for Arlington Club Event
Submitted by Jim Thomas
The Kiwanis Club of Arlington's 39th annual Oyster & Barbecue Feast drew a festival pre-Halloween crowd to American Service Center in Ballston on Oct. 30.
Some came for the oysters - fried and raw - or other food that was served in all-you-can eat portions. But others came for the politicking, as the annual event is one of the last major chances for those on the ballot to meet and greet the public in preparation for Election Day.
Candidates for Congress, County Board and School Board were in evidence both outside and inside the garage that served as headquarters for the annual feast.
The Kiwanis Club of Arlington's roots in the community go back nearly 80 years. The service organization over the past quarter-century has donated nearly $1.5 million and thousands of volunteer hours to support programs aimed at improving the lives of youth in the community.
Proceeds from the Oyster & Barbecue Feast go directly to community-service projects.
