Poquoson Kiwanis Supports Kids
by Joe Discenza
The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson renewed its support for youth programs by contributions to the Capital District Foundation and Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD). New Club President Philip E. Prisco presented a check for $1,500 to Karen S. Gershman, Executive Director of Development for CHKD and also presented outgoing Club President Walter Burns with a Lifetime Membership in the Kiwanis Capital District Foundation.
All regional Kiwanis clubs have supported CHKD in past years to develop the Children's Kiwanis Emergency Center in Norfolk and also in procuring new emergency transport vehicles, which Karen calls "really mobile intensive care units." Ms. Gershamn told club members at their regular Tuesday meeting that, since its establishment in 1994, CKEC "has served over a million kids."
The Kiwanis Capital District Foundation raises money to support the three Kiwanis sponsored youth programs, Circle K for college students, Key Clubs at high schools, and middle school Builders' Clubs, as well as individual Kiwanis clubs for special youth projects.
