Capitol Hill Club's Builders Club

Jan MacKinnon

The Builders Club of Stuart Hobson Middle School, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Capitol Hill, supported several initiatives of community service on Thursday, October 28th, 2010. The core focus was participation by all students in the Walk for the Homeless sponsored by Fannie Mae. Students and teachers showed support as well for First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign to rein in childhood obesity through the Let's Get Going Campaign and the Healthy Eating Campaign. The Builders Club sponsored a water table for walkers that featured water and healthy snacks, including granola bars and fruit. Many of the students extended their walk for the homeless by walking an additional 3 ½ miles carrying cans of food to replicate the experience of much of third world countries that do not have adequate clean water. All this on one glorious sunny day! The Builders Club at SHMS is led by teacher Lesa Warrick and had the support on that special day of Kiwanians Jan MacKinnon and Sandra Jenkins as well as Capitol Hill President Marilyn Franklin.
