Pump
It Up for Africa!
by
Raga Elim, Ph.D., Chair, Capital District
Committee on International Understanding
I'm very pleased to report that as of the end of March, we're almost half way to our goal of $30,000 for the Initiative for Africa, a project of the Capital District Committee on International Understanding.
To maximize our contributions by the time of the Kiwanis International convention in late June, I'm excited to announce a new campaign-"Pump It Up for Africa"-to support the Initiative.
Two clubs-Arlington and Rockville- plus our Capital District Governor, Tom Ganse, and our former Governor Art Riley are all stepping forward to kick off the "Pump it Up" campaign. Each is giving $500 or more to the Initiative for Africa. (For a list of previous club contributions, please see the attached table.)
Let me emphasize: all contributions are welcome. Whether the donation is $5 or $50 or $500, whether it comes from an individual or a club or a partnership of clubs, it makes no difference. All donations express the Kiwanis spirit, especially in these difficult economic times.
Governors Tom and Art and the clubs listed above, however, are some of the pacesetters driving the progress of the new campaign. As Governor Tom commented at a recent Kiwanis meeting, "I am pleased to step forward and contribute personally to this most worthy effort. Initiative for Africa represents an important opportunity for the clubs and members of the Capital District to join hands and make a difference for children and families in a part of the world that can benefit profoundly from our help."
Look each month in the eBuilder and online for updates that will recognize contributors over the past month, highlight the growing list of pacesetters, and report the current collection total for the Initiative for Africa. Many thanks for your consideration and support!
