Div. 13 Clubs Kiwanis One Day
by Judy Pantelides, Lt. Governor, Division 13
On Saturday, April 25th, all of our Division 13 Kiwanis clubs conducted a 4-hour hands-on service event, Kiwanis One Day, at the Boys and Girls Club on Shell Road in Hampton. Hampton Mayor Molly Ward, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Old Point Comfort, joined over 120 volunteers who completed several landscaping, painting, and cleaning projects throughout the exterior and interior of the facility. The 120 volunteers included students K-Kids from Jane Bryan and Forrest Elementary Schools, Builders Club members froKey Clubbers from Hampton and Phoebus High Schools, members from the Christopher Newport University CKI club and members of our Division 13 Aktion Club. There was a barbecue and chicken luncheon following the hard work for all of our volunteers, club members, and parents of our service leadership club members.
Amy Thorstad, President of the Kiwanis Club of Merury 64 and Lt. Governor-Elect, directed the community service effort. Ms. Thorstad lauded the volunteers' efforts, commenting that "Volunteering with community service organizations like Kiwanis helps families build a greater understanding of the importance of giving back and the difference that one person can make in the lives of others. By fostering a greater understanding of the social issues and challenges faced by others, voluntary work helps connect families to their community in a meaningful and fulfilling way".
