Easter Basket Bonanza in Mt. Airy
by Bill Butts
Mt.AiryNet is a social support network that provides resources and assistance to local Mt. Airy, MD families in need and the Mt. Airy club has a long service relationship with the organization. This year, not surprisingly, the number of families being served by Mt. AiryNet has jumped significantly as a result of the current economic downturn. For several years the Youth Services Committee of the Mt. Airy Club has made up and donated Easter Baskets on the Saturday before Easter to the children of Mt. AiryNet families. When the requested number of baskets increased by 50% to 60+ this year, the club didn't hesitate to meet the need. This year's project also provided the opportunity for the club to make the event a "Kiwanis One-Day" Opportunity when members of the club-sponsored Key Club at So. Carroll High School also signed up to help. Pictured behind a portion of the baskets are participating members of the club, Key Club member Ashley, and the Excutive Director of Mt.AiryNet, Elaine Dean.
