Northern Virginia Community College CKI
by Bruce Malkin
Students at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College spent their Friday afternoon recently doing their first community service project while their fellow students watched the soccer World Cup match nearby. On June 11, after enjoying a hot dog and hamburger bar-b-q together, a dozen members of the newly chartered Kiwanis CKI Club at NOVACC went into the Biisdorf building and spent the next 2 hours creating colorful paper hats from paper and decorations purchased for this project. The resulting creations will be personally delivered by these thoughtful students to children who are patients in the area's hospitals. Led by Club President "Ash" Elmelik and VP Ryan Pierpoint, the group worked happily and steadily until a large supply of beautifully decorated fun hats were ready for delivery.
The below photos show the hatmaking work in progress. The NOVACC CKI Club in Alexandria is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club. See www.mtvernonvakiwanis.org for more information on community service programs available in this region.
