Mount
Vernon Kiwanis Club Sets Up For Xmas Tree Sale With Help
From Key Club Students From Mount Vernon And West Potomac
High Schools
by Bruce Malkin
Mount Vernon and West Potomac High Schools sent large contingents of their Kiwanis Key Club students to the Belle View Shopping Center on Saturday morning, November 28, to assist their sponsoring organization, the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club (MVKC), to unload and set up 750 Fraser fir trees to be sold through December 23 as its main fund raiser for the year. Dr. Nardos King, Principal, and Dr. Anne McCracken, Faculty Adviser, led the Mount Vernon HS group, and Kathleen McCullough, Faculty Adviser, led her team from West Potomac HS.
In record time, the trailer
truck was unloaded, the trees were put on their support
stands, and the first trees were sold. Dr. Donald Reynolds,
MVKC member, bought the first tree from Tree Sale Organizer,
Paul Mehler (pictured), which he promptly donated to
his church, St. Luke's Episcopal. Trees are on sale
weekdays from 12 noon to 8:00 pm and on weekends from
9:00 am until 8:00 pm until all the trees are sold.
All the proceeds will be used to improve the lives
of needy families and underprivileged children in our
Mount Vernon community. For more information about
MVKC, see www.mtvernonvakiwanis.org.
