Key
Leader Program Set for March 27-29
by Nicole McDermott
Key Leader is Kiwanis's weekend leadership education program
for high school students (of any grade level, and there
is no limit to the number of students who can attend per
school).
Our Capital District Key Leader event will take place March
27-29, in Millersville, Maryland, at Arlington Echo. This
is a camp location about 10 minutes from Annapolis and
about 45 minutes from the D.C. metropolitan area. We hope
every
Kiwanis Club in the Capital District will sponsor at least
one student (preferably more!) to attend. It costs $150/student
to sponsor a Key Club member OR $175/student to sponsor
a non-Key Club member. Students do not need to be Key Club
members to attend. Please consider the possibility of inviting
a student from a local high school without a Key Club to
attend and introducing that student and his/her family
to
the Kiwanis Family. It might be a situation where the family
would otherwise have had no connection to the Kiwanis Family.
The other possibility to is nominate a Key Clubber to attend.
No matter
who you sponsor, the student(s) will benefit greatly from
the experience. Key Leader is not taking place during any
holiday, spring break, or testing weekends, and it is one
month before Key Club DCON so there are no conflicts there.
This is a hugely valuable program that complements the objective
of Kiwanis -- service leadership. Key Leader teaches students
to be leaders through service and focuses on five principles
-- integrity, respect, excellence, growth, and community.
Please help us reach our goal of getting at least 60 students
to attend Key Leader by making this a priority for your Kiwanis
Club! Speaking as a product of Kiwanis Service Leadership
Programs, it will be time and money well spent.
