Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City

Wunderbar Kiwanis German Dinner Raises Scholarship Funds

The Ocean Pines Country Club was all a bustle with the Kiwanis Annual Autumn German Dinner on Sunday November 2nd. While the dinner is labor intensive, with three days of food preparation by the Kiwanis Club members prior to the dinner, the end result is "Wunderbar". Pictured are Kiwanis members serving guests the traditional German foods.

Patrons enjoy a wonderful meal and funds are raised to allow the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City to continue to award scholarships annually to deserving local high school senior students to further their educations. Something for everybody. Kiwanis says "Danke" (Thank You).

The Salisbury School Key Club in Action

Key Club is the high school level club of Kiwanis International, a community service club dedicated to "Serving the Children of the World". Members of the parent Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City visited The Salisbury School Key Club to hear about their club and what it is doing. Pictured is Ross Kaelin, faculty member of The Salisbury School and Key Club Advisor, facilitating a Key Club meeting of The Salisbury School Key Club. The membership had just wrapped up their Halloween Project, collecting monies for UNICEF and were organizing the next fundraiser, "Penny Wars", whereby containers are put out in the school to collect funds for charity. Key Clubbers were also made aware of the Annual Salvation Army Christmas Holiday Bell Ringing Program, in which the local Kiwanis Club participates, and were invited to participate. Service to the community in action.

Kiwanis, Worcester Gold And Monart

Pictured is Diane Hammer of Monart, an art studio located in Ocean Pines at Manklin Station providing art lessons for anyone seeking to learn more about art and drawing. What appeals to the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City, which heard Diane's presentation at a recent weekly meeting, is that Diane's studio is working with some children from Worcester County Gold, an organization which the local Kiwanis Club supports in serving children.

Monart looks for sponsors who will send children to summer camp for art and who will sponsor children for art lessons during the year. Diane has talked with local schools and clubs seeking their sponsorship of children and Kiwanis was one of them. Classes are set up for Pre-school ages 3 to 4, 5 to 6, and school ages 6 to 8, 8 to 12 and teens as well as classes for adults. Art teaches focusing of attention and details. There is no competition and no judgement. "Art is what you want it to be", said Hammer.
