Touch a Truck - Laplata Club Supports Child Safety
by Judi Gorney
Touch a Truck was held in April, and it was a fundraising effort by the Center for Children, Inc. The Center for Children is a private, non-profit organization that provides comprehensive mental health services to children and their families.
There were over 60 trucks, including fire trucks, ambulances, cranes, bulldozers and police cars. There was also a helicopter! The children who came to Touch a Truck were allowed to climb on and explore the different pieces of construction equipment as well as toot a few horns!
The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata was on hand to pass out and promote our green car stickers to be placed on car seats, bike helmets as well as skate boards. These stickers aid in helping to identify a child if he or she is in an accident. After all, children don't carry identification.
During the Touch a Truck event, the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata held a raffle for a toy truck. After the event, there was a drawing and the lucky winner of the truck was Eddie Holt the 4th!
