LaPlata Club Charters K Kids Club
by Judi Gorney
The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata recently held a Charter reception for the new K Kids Club at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School in LaPlata, which the LaPlata Club is sponsoring. There was quite a turn out for the twenty plus members of the club. The school's Principal, Mrs. Linda Gill, was on hand to pass out certificates and goodie bags to the K Kids members.
This Club was busy from the beginning of the year! In the fall, the Washington Capitals hockey team donated tickets for them to come to a game! During the year, they made blessing boxes to go with Thanksgiving baskets, and at Christmas time, they collected school supplies for students in need. They are about to take a field trip into Washington, DC to the Natural History Museum this week. It shows that being a K Kid sure has some great benefits!
Jonnie Mann, President of the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata, was there to welcome the Club and all its members and to present their club a K Kids banner. Millie Kremelmeyer, Lieutenant Governor, District 22, was also there to welcome the newest Club to our District.
Jim Gorney, a Kiwanis Club of LaPlata Director, donated and held a raffle for a lucky K Kids member to win tickets to a Washington Nationals baseball game.
There was punch and cake following the ceremony and raffle. The K Kids were very excited to be a part of the new club that had formed and look forward to next year's activities.
