HOWDEE!! It's that time of year again! It's time to make reservations to attend the 94th Kiwanis International Convention in "Music City", Nashville, Tennessee! It's the home of Country Music's Hall of Fame & Museum, our Kiwanis Night at the Grand Ole Opry, great BBQs, and line dancing just to name a few. Music abounds from country, jazz, blues, classical to rock 'n' roll. And don't forget to take a side trip to Graceland, home of Elvis, in Memphis before or after the convention. If one takes the time to read more critical and balanced trade publications, and looks past the mainstream media's sensationalism surrounding the current economic conditions, one could easily develop the opinion that we are experiencing a natural correction to the euphoric but unsustainable market conditions of the past decade or so. Well, the Montgomery Village Kiwanis Club in Division 17 sponsored and chartered the "Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children Aktion Club" ("CSAAC Aktion Club" for a short name) at an evening ceremony in Montgomery Village, Maryland. ...more

Chesterfield Club Presents Custom Tricycle

The Kiwanis Club of Chesterfield's Immediate Past President Neal Robertson presented Jack Coombs with a customized Rifton tricycle. He is a sixth grader with cerebral palsy who attends Bailey Bridge Middle School in Chesterfield County, The tricycle will assist him with his physical therapy and allow him with much greater mobility. The Chesterfield Club became involved at the request of Jack's mother, Sandra, after she had exhausted all efforts to get their health insurance company to cover the cost.

Mount Vernon Club Distributes 160 Books

On January 9, Joanne and Bruce Malkin, Erin Rhoads, and Lisa Caputo of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club (MVKC) distributed free books to over 160 pre-kinder children at the Gum Springs Head Start Center in their area. This is an ongoing program that puts about 500 new books into the hands of young boys and girls every year. Lisa is the Program Coordinator for the MVKC. Maxine Maloney is the Fairfax County Head Start Director for the Gum Springs Center.
