Tuckahoe Club Presents Check
by George King
Christmas came early for
the Children's Home Society of Virginia in the form
of a $12,000 dollar check given by the Kiwanis Club
of Tuckahoe. Mrs. Nadine Marsh-Carter, President and
CEO, was present on December 18th, when Bland Weaver,
President-elect, and Debbie Wheeler, President, made
the gift. Many club members accompanied them as they
were given a tour of the office and treated to a history
of this outstanding organization. (Pictured are club
members with recipients of the check.) The Children's
Home Society of Virginia is 108 years old and has placed
more than 12,500 children in permanent families. Jack
Williams, a club member, was also in attendance. Jack's
family has a long history of dedication to CHSVA, as
some family member has been either on the board or
involved directly for the past century. Since 1995,
our club (now composed of only 32 members) has given
over $275,000 to worthy causes active in the Metro-Richmond
area. This latest gift was made possible the efforts
of Bland Weaver, President-elect, who shepherded a golf tournament in October.
