LaPlata Club Donates to Medical Center
by Judi Gorney
The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata recently bought and donated two CPR Teddys to Civista Medical Center of LaPlata, Maryland. They are an easy-to-use aide for learning and practicing infant and child choking rescue and CPR skills. Families who have a child with breathing issues who are released from the hospital will be able to feel more confident in caring for their child because this bear is able to demonstrate CPR and choking and rescue skills to the family caring for the infant or child.
By pressing one of the CPR Teddy's paws, it activates an audio review of infant (birth to 1 year) or child (1 year to 8 years) choking rescue steps and CPR techniques. A bright red heart on the bear's chest shows where to compress the chest. Teddy's bowtie glows red or green to let you know if you are doing compressions properly. When you give rescue breaths, you can watch as his chest rises. A voice guides you through the complete procedure while a metronome helps you perform compressions at the proper pace.
The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata hopes to be able to donate CPR Teddys again since the bears go home with a family. Pictured: Susan Vogel, Executive Director of Civista Health Foundation, Linda Kandel, Director of Marketing and Planning for Civista, Emily Ferren, President of Kiwanis Club of LaPlata.
