Town Center Kiwanis Virginia Beach Report
by Nancy Pindur
January and February were busy months, in spite of the unusual snowfall we received. We installed a new member, Annalisa Previte, at the end of December 2009. Our total membership at this time is a whopping 45 with prospects of even more growth.
Our monthly social outings, which are actually paybacks to the restaurants in Town Center that support our fundraising efforts throughout the year, are well attended and a wonderful chance for our members to get to know one another in a social setting without the pressure of a quick lunch, speaker, and then back to work, with little time for conversation.
Our treasurer, Tom Balen, has been busy organizing and planning our May Golf Tournament. Each year under his watchful eye, our tournament has grown bigger and better and have been successful fundraisers for the club.
We continue to participate in REACH under the direction of Diane Hotaling. Members read to children of parents going through difficult times.
Recently we have been looking at various fundraising activities that will not be affected by weather, like our Neptune Festactivity , Our 5K Town Center Race and our Town Center Golf Tournament. This may lead to even more funds for our charities.
In March we have our annual membership drive and contest related to our open meeting to report on the state of Town Center. We are looking forward to this event in the hopes of increasing our membership.
Our Club sends representatives to the Annual Mid Winter Conference and the Capital District Convention. We stay active with the Circle K at Virginia Wesleyan college and with People First.
