Lunch followed a speaker from the Chinese Embassy who spoke about education and economics in his native country. A great time was had by all as we tasted real 'Chinese' food and tried out eating with chop sticks
(Above) Mount Vernon Club. Abigail Konyndyk, a Parent Trainer at First Home Care, spoke to the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club at the Mount Vernon Country Club on February 3. She explained the benefits and responsibilities of foster parenting to 16 MVKC members after dinner. The rewards can be great, but she did not gloss over the difficulties that could arise despite her organization's best efforts to match the child to the foster parents, who must undergo an extensive evaluation process as well before an agreement is reached. She offered the opportunity to work with families willing to open their homes to help children in need of a loving environment. After a lively question and answer period, Bruce Malkin, MVKC President, thanked Ms. Konyndyk and presented her with an MVKC cap.
