Attribute to Major General (Ret.) Alvin Bryant, M.D.
by Judy Pantelides
The Capital District and Division 13 recently lost a warrior and champion Kiwanian. Major General (Ret.) Alvin Bryant, M.D. was serving his second year as president of the Kiwanis Club of Hampton. Dr. Bryant was a strong motivator and leader of his Kiwanis club as well as many other community activities. When he began planning for his new position, Al led the charge in recruiting new members to his club leading by example what he challenged every club member to do. He was very instrumental in setting the tone for our division growing by leaps and bounds gaining over 100 members. Al was a soft but powerful leader and will be missed by all. Some of the comments shared at his celebration of life on February 13, 2010 from club members include:
"Al was a very active builder of school clubs. He took a personal commitment (even though he was busy w/ so many other things such as his profession) to build and work w/ the K Kids & Key Club. He personally organized and attended the K-Kids club @ Smith and was instrumental in getting a new club @ Tarrant for this year. He also was very strong in working w/ the HHS Key club. Al Bryant was a very active & supportive President and he will be missed so much." - Dorothy Slivertorn, Past President
"The thing that impressed me most with Al was his dedication to the task at hand. In spite of his many other activities, he was never too busy not to get involved in hands on activities. He was positive in his approach and recognized the need to participate in getting trained for his role as President. Al reinstilled vigor into the membership and challenged all to join with him in seeing the future." - Al Newton, Secretary/Treasurer
Thanks to Al for being such a gentleman and a true Kiwanian role model. I was honored to have work with him last year as Lt. Governor and we became real friends. We will all miss him greatly.
