The newly formed KIWANIS Club of Fort Eustis held its first "Pancake Palooza" fund raiser on February 28th at the Belgian Waffle and Steak House in Newport News.  Bradley Smith of Williamsburg won the drawing for an autographed Redskins photo presented by David Wells, club President, and Chris Christou, restaurant owner.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the children of Fort Eustis and its surrounding area.   



ER gets a check from Great Bridge Kiwanis
. During Great Bridge Kiwanis annual Wine and Cheese social, representatives from the club (from left, Vice President Chuck Steinman, Immediate Past President Wayne Parrish, and President Rob Hamlin) presented Larisa Nargi and Brenda Kuntz of Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation with a check for $2,5000 to improve the Emergency Department's children's waiting area.  The check is part of a $15,000 commitment Great Bridge Kiwanis has made in support of the children's area.  Chesapeake Regional's Emergency Department cares for some 65,000 patients a year, making it Hampton Roads' busiest ER.  During the social, the club distributed over $9,000 to Hampton Roads organizations which support children in our community.



Tabb Kiwanis Club
donated $600 to Tabb Elementary School on March 10 to purchase school items which are not funded by their budget. This is the 4th year that TKC donated funds to help enhance education for children at Tabb Elementary School. Attached picture is taken at the check preentation on March 10. Division 13, Hampton Roads Region, celebrated the Charter Night of the newest Division 13 club, the KCO Tidewater Young Professionals.  Amy Thorstad, Division 13 LT Governor, kneeling in front, is so proud of this new club and spent many hours over the past year working to get the young club chartered.  Gov. The Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown had it's Annual Policeman of the Year Award Dinner on Tuesday February 8, 2011. Officer Sean Lawlor, an eight year veteran of the Baltimore County Police Department was this year's recipient.  He has served in the Pikesville and Franklin precincts throughtout his years in the department. Officer Lawlor is married and a member of the Marine Corp Reserve and has served 2 tours in Iraq. Kiwanis Club of Winchester Spring Community Pancake Day.  Saturday, April 9, 7 am to 7 pm.  War Memorial Building, Jim Barnett Park, 1001 E. Cork St., Winchester, Va.  Cost is $6.00 at the door.  All the pancakes, sausage, apple juice, milk and coffee you can eat. Join 6,000 'Friends of Kiwanis' for good food and fellowship. Vera Bradley Bingo April 9th. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Millsboro will host a Vera Bradley Bingo on Saturday, April 9th at the Millsboro Fire Hall on State Street in downtown Millsboro. Proceeds from the event will benefit local children and youth. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. The Bingo features a great selection of popular Vera Bradley handbags, along with a 50/50 raffle. Tickets for the 50/50 are available now from any Millsboro Kiwanis member; the winning ticket will be drawn on April 9th. The Bingo includes 20 regular games, 2 special games and 2 prize raffles, plus door prizes and refreshments. Bingo tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. On Saturday, May 14, 2011 the Kiwanis Club of Reisterstown is having its annual Paper Shredding Event from 9:00-1:00p.m. at the Cherryvale Shopping Center on Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown (In front of Office Depot).  Come bring old documents or old tax records to be shredded.  There is no charge but donations are welcomed.  Call Jan Dudey at 410-356-5707 or more details.

The Builders Club of Poquoson Middle School collected more than $170 for the Lymphoma & Leukemia society in their local campaign "Pennies for Patients." The Builders Club comprises Seventh and Eighth graders from the Middle School who meet monthly and participate both in their own charitable fund raising and in support of the sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Poquoson. The Potomac Region Kiwanis Clubs held their third annual Onesies collection for the infant patients at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D. C.  The clubs collected over 1000 Onesies.  These items were delivered to a very grateful hospital staff on Thursday, March 10 for use in "Dr. Bear's Closet".  There is a definite need for items for infants who are sometimes neglected by donors and the Region plans to continue this annual effort.  This service project is spearheaded by Young Children Priority One District Chair, Bernice Oden. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Capital began the tutoring program at Hornsby Middle School in Williamsburg. The Tutoring Program consists of helping 15 students who are having difficulty in history and geography prepare for the Standards of Learning test. The Program goes through March and will result in 150 service hours.
