Head for Williamsburg this August for Fun, Friends and Fellowship
Capital District Kiwanis is "Williamsburg Bound" in 2011
The 2011 Capital District Kiwanis Convention will be held in August in Williamsburg, Virginia, center of so much history for our nation. The convention will begin on Friday afternoon, August 19 and run through mid-day on Sunday, August 21.
Headquartered at the Williamsburg Marriott Hotel, near Busch Gardens, the conference theme is "Williamsburg Bound - History in the Making". Conference planners from Division 23, led by chair Caren Schumacher and co-chair Carla Morin of the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club, are planning a weekend full of opportunities for Kiwanis learning, sharing ideas, member and club recognition, along with some special guests and chances to experience the sights and sounds of America's Historic Triangle.
"We are going to provide a convention experience that no one will forget," said Caren Schumacher. "And because we are in one of America's best spots for history and for fun, we hope people will plan a family vacation around the convention and come early or stay longer to take advantage of all the opportunities in our area."
Among the special guests already confirmed for the weekend is Taylor Reveley, president of the College of William and Mary, who is a strong supporter of Kiwanis programs -- CKI in particular. President Reveley will speak at the Fellowship Luncheon on Saturday. Other contemporary local leaders are on the convention docket and, being Colonial Williamsburg, you never know when important historical figures may also appear.
Traditional convention activities will also be present, including the Kiwanis Caring Corner, the Kiwanis Store, workshops and the exciting Ducky Derby.
The conference planning committee is hard at work developing the program and events. There is a web site at www.Kiwaniscdc2011.com that will post details of the conference as they are set and will have links for on-line registration for the conference and the hotel. The committee will also be using Facebook and Twitter to keep District members up to date, as well as providing information through club channels.
