by Frank Raskauskas
Seaford, DE - Recently, the Nanticoke Senior Center received an $8,000 pledge from the Kiwanis Club of Seaford toward their on-going capital campaign. NSC Board Chair, Lora Schuler graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the Nanticoke Senior Center. "Service clubs through-out the Seaford area are critical to the growth and strength of the Seaford community." states Schuler. "The generosity and commitment of the Kiwanis Club is another great example of how our community comes together for the greater good of those we serve." she emphasized.
The Kiwanis Club of Seaford has been serving the community since 1923. Over the years community involvement has included, support in the establishment of the Nanticoke Hospital, contributions to the Boys and Girls Club and the Seaford Library, and a partnership with the City of Seaford to construct Kiwanis Park. The Kiwanis Foundation also presents scholarships to Seaford School District students. At present, the Kiwanis Club sponsors four youth groups: a K-Kids Club, a Builders Club and two Key Clubs. These programs and projects are supported through their annual fundraisers, auction, Basket Bingo, and Golf Tournament.
"The Kiwanis Club appreciates the support of the community to make this donation possible. The Seaford Kiwanis Club is very pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause as the purchase and renovation of the new Nanticoke Senior Center" stated club president C.M Kohlenberg.
The Nanticoke Senior Center provides critical social, educational, and health related services designed to enhance the lives of more than 800 senior members. The center, which has been in existence for nearly 40 years, has recently purchased the building formerly known as the Seaford Country Club from the City of Seaford. The building is currently under renovations to convert the building into the new home of the Nanticoke Senior Center. Renovations of the building are scheduled to be completed June 2011 and are designed for the Center to optimally fulfill its mission of providing a life enhancement center for the Senior population of Seaford and the surrounding area.
