Seaford Kiwanis to be Honored at Christmas Parade

by Frank Raskauskas

The Seaford Christmas Parade Committee is proud to break with tradition for the 2011 Christmas Parade. This is quite interesting, especially since the parade theme is "Olde Town Christmas." The tradition that is to be broken in the naming of the Grand Marshall. Every year, an individual who has done something special for the community has been selected to be the Grand Marshall. This year, for the first time, a group has been voted to be the Grand Marshall for the parade. The group chosen by the Christmas Parade Committee is the Kiwanis Club of Seaford.

The Kiwanis Club has helped for many years, doing the line up, and helping the participants as they prepared for the big event. In adition, the Kiwnais has made a substantial donation to the parade. The donation is very important. The Seaford Christmas Parade Committee gives a donation of $350 to each of the out of town school bands, and $250 to the Seaford School Bands. This is to help with the cost of participation. There are two bands locally, so the Kiwninis gives $500 to help with the expense. As tight as school budgets are, this is much needed.

There is even a "Kiwanis Choice" award given to an entry in the parade. This was started just a few years ago. A parade entry is selected to be given and award for best exemplifying the goals and ideals of the Kiwanis. The recipient is lead by a "Kiwanis Choice" banner, carried by members of the Seaford NJROTC. The winner is also presented a trophy.

The whole "Kiwanis family" will participate. The Key Club will be working with Kiwanians to make a float. This float will be placed immediately behind the Grand Marshall vehicle. As you can imagine, we are already working on ideas for the float.

We welcome all to come see the parade. It is scheduled for December 3rd, at 7:00 pm. The rain date is Sunday, December 4th, also at 7:00 pm. The parade committee will soon have the web site updated, so you see more details there. The web site is www.mychristmasparade.com . We hope to see you there!
