Mount Vernon Club Sponsors Trip to Wax Museum for Kids
by Bruce Malkin
On Friday, July 8th, 48 children and 6 chaperones from the UCM Sacramento and Creekside Community Centers went to the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Washington, D.C. The trip was sponsored by the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club, which generously funded the bus and entrance fees. The group had the opportunity to meet and greet wax figures of Barack Obama, Michael Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and many more celebrities. Many of the students found the exhibits that included sports athletes such as Muhammad Ali and musicians such as the Jonas Brothers the most exciting. Many were surprised that the figures they viewed to be larger than life actually turned out to be just about their size. After an excellent trip, the students enjoyed a lunch on the mall provided by the Summer Meals for Kids program run by Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services.
