Peninsula
at Oyster Point Club Celebrates Noah Webster
by Suzi Edwards
The Kiwanis Club of the
Peninsula at Oyster Point celebrated the 250-year anniversary
of the birth of Noah Webster, who is widely credited
with producing the first American dictionary. October
16, 2008 was "Dictionary Day" at Palmer Elementary School when the Kiwanis Club donated 150 Merriam Webster
dictionaries to the school. Every 5th grade student
received his or her own dictionary. In addition, transfer
students and new fifth-grade teachers also received
dictionaries from the club. On hand to distribute the
books were members of the Community Service Committee
(L-R) Esther Sheppard and Robin Harnish along with
Chuck Root, Kiwanis Club President.
