Bridge Kiwanis Partners With Virginia
State Police At the installation of officers of the Great Bridge Kiwanis Club held on September 30, 2008, Outgoing President Jeff Cavanaugh and Incoming President Wayne Parrish presented Captain R. Daniel Plott of the Virginia State Police with a check for $1,000 to be used in the Bear Program at Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters. "Trooper Bears" are carried by State Police troopers and given to children in distress. more |

Initiative for Africa: A Challenge We
Must Meet Many individuals join Kiwanis clubs specifically because we are an international organization with a global mission-that lofty goal of changing the world one child and one community at a time. To this point, with a few notable exceptions, our Capital District clubs seem to have focused on local efforts directed toward helping our own children and communities. This is commendable, but it does not address the incredible needs of children worldwide...Accordingly, our District Committee on International Understanding has decided to pursue a new approach to achieving our global mission. We have selected Africa because its needs are great and most of us know extremely little about this part of the world. more |

Capital Club Dream Catchers At a recent club meeting Nancy Paschall, executive director of "Dream Catchers" spoke about their program which uses horses to help handicapped children. She thanked our club for its continuing support and emphasized their need for equestrian equipment. more |
