Hill Club Celebrates 45th Charter!

Members, guests, and friends of the Capitol Hill Kiwanis
Club celebrated their 45th Charter on September 26th, 2008.
It was a great event, chaired ably by Marlena Lanham Tracy.
A great surprise, to add to the celebration, was the presentation
of a $500 check from the Stuart Hobson Middle School Builders
Club for the Children's Hospital Network. The check was
presented by officers from the last school year, Kayla
Kelly, Zoe Zakin
and Kate Bucknum. They were accompanied by Faculty Sponsor
Sandra B. Jenkins, an eighth grade science teacher at Stuart
Hobson. The funds were raised last year at a variety of
activities, including a Valentine's Day Dance. Lily Williams,
Secretary
of the Capitol HIll Club, said that she was "sooooo
proud" of the Builders Club.
Many individuals join Kiwanis clubs specifically because we are an international
organization with a global mission-that lofty goal of changing
the world one child and one community at a time. To this
point, with a few notable exceptions, our Capital District
clubs seem to have focused on local efforts directed toward
helping our own children and communities. This is commendable,
but it does not address the incredible needs of children
worldwide...Accordingly,
our District Committee on International Understanding has
decided to pursue a new approach
to achieving our global mission. We have selected Africa because its needs are great and most of us know extremely
little about this part of the world...
