Virginia
Beach-Town Center Club Had Busy Month
by Nancy Pindur
The Kiwanis Club of Virginia Beach-Town Center has been busy as usual this past month, as we prepare for our annual Town center Race the weekend of Veteran's Day. This year looks to be even more successful than previous years. The Taste of Town center to follow the race is always a highlight, with restaurants in the Town Center area providing samples of their fare. Our club members got together socially for a weekend gathering at the beach homes of club member, Jerry Collier, for golf and fun in Nags Head, N.C. Everyone who attended had a great time. This month we added three charities to our giving list: Tidewater Autism Society, Helping Hands and Head Start. We thank member, Greg Hayes for his chairmanship of our successful fundraiser at the Neptune Fest, where members manned a beer tent during the festivities for 3 days. This year, in spite of a waning economy, we raised $6000 for charities. Besides our Town Center Race this month, members will be aiding CLASP bingo on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, where mentally challenged young people play Bingo for Christmas gifts for their family members. Our club will be providing Thanksgiving baskets for two families in our community in need of help this holiday. We are already planning our Christmas help with the Salvation Army as they distribute Angel Tree gifts, Toys for Tots and food to the needy in our community. Our club will also bring Baskets to two families during the Christmas season. We also hope to visit Hope Haven,a children's home, to distribute gifts to the children there who will not be with their families during the holidays.
