Parkville Kiwanis Celebrates 64 Years

On January 26th, Parkville Kiwanis Club celebrated 64 years of service to community, with some 50 members, guests and special guests Governor Elect Don Dudey and Lt. Governor Ted Zapalowicz. President Kristen George presided.

Member, Gene Amberman gave a presentation of the past history of the club, stating that it held its first meeting at Pappas Restaurant in Parkville, then moved to St. John's Lutheran Church in Parkville and moving again to its present location at St. Peter's Lutheran church in Fullerton where it as held meetings for the past 15 years.

Legion of Honor awards were presented to Earl Swartzendruber for 36 years of service (pictured right with Pres. Kristen George); to Jack Annis, 35 years of service and Dean Pickens for 25 years service. Distinguished Service awards were given to each member for the volunteering he/she had done. Perfect attendance certificates were presented as well.
Our oldest member Ed Deckert, celebrated his 90th birthday on the same day and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Thanks to Loch Raven, Pikesville and East Baltimore Club , who were represented. Congratulations to President Kristen George and President Elect Jereme George for their interest and dedication to our club.

The Parkville Club is proud of its accomplishments. Presently the club is supporting several organizations, either financially or physcially by volunteering, awarding scholarships to deserving students and otherwise being of service to the community. Tthe club is proud of its involvement with several local schools. Elmwood Elementary and St. Michael the Archangel Schools participate in the "Terrific Kids" program. Adam Paul recently awarded 100 certificates, badges, pencils and bumper stickers to students in the Elmwood Elementary School. On February 24th, members of the club participated in the Principal's Breakfast at Parkville Middle School and gave certificates to a total of 42 students; 16 sixth grade students; 12 seventh grade students and 14 eighth grade students who maintained an "A" average for the reporting period.. Principal Murray "Buddy" Parker and President Kristen George gave out the certificates. Eight members of Parkville club supported this event.
