Kiwanis Club of Richmond Children's Hospital Health & Safety Day
By Jim Wilson
On the weather-perfect morning of April 20th the Children's Hospital grounds sprang to life for their annual Health and Safety Day with the arrival of 570 pre-school children from the area. In addition to police and fire equipment displays, there were booths illustrating a number of good health habits.
Once again the theme of our Club's booth was bicycle safety and the use of helmets. To this end, safety stickers, book marks, and bike helmet ID stickers were distributed to the children. We have participated with Children's Hospital in this program for a number of years - each spring the Hospital arranges with several Richmond Public Elementary Schools to provide second graders with bike helmets that are purchased with a contribution from our Club's Foundation.
Thanks very much to Judy Ashley, Virginia Adams, and Bill McAllister for working our booth for two hours next to the puppet show. Virginia and Bill, who are Co-Chairmen of the Children's Hospital Committee this year, are shown working our booth in the photo below.
