Georgetown Kiwanis Sponsors Sussex County Memorial Day Service

The traditional Sussex County Memorial Day Celebration was Sunday, May 30 at the Circle in Georgetown. Co-sponsors were the Georgetown Kiwanis Club and the Korean War Veterans Association, Sussex Chapter.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Kerrigan, USMC Retired, son of Kiwanians Bill and Shirley Kerrigan was the Keynote speaker. Master of Ceremonies was former Kiwanis Georgetown Board Chairman, the Honorable Richard Comly. The Sussex Central High Junior ROTC presented Colors. Reverend John Betts of the Abundant Life Church, Georgetown offered the Invocation and Benediction. Soloist Cathy Gorman sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful and another patriotic selection.
Veteran's groups and local service organizations, including Georgtown Kiwanis President, Shirley Dennis placed wreaths in tribute to those who died in WW II, Korea, Viet Nam, and the recent conflicts,to protect our freedoms. The Korean War Veterans Association executed a rifle salute and John Paul Jones and Doug Myers of Sussex Central High School Band performed Taps and its echo. Rosemary Cummings
