LaPlata Club Fun Fest

by Judi Gorney

WOW! What do you get when you combine 16 Kiwanis Club of Laplata members, with 12 LaPlata High School Key Club members, 84 parents, 81 children, four carried-in infants, 3 prospective Kiwanis of LaPlata members, 4 mascots and 2 clowns? The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata's First Annual Fun Fest!

On February 28, 2010, lucky children of LaPlata painted, played games, made arts and crafts, decorated cookies and had loads of fun. The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata created a carnival atmosphere at the LaPlata Fire Hall with the help of clowns, Bunky and Blondie, Chick-Fil-A of LaPlata and 12 community sponsors who donated money for the toys and goodies that the kids took home. After Bunky and Blondie's magic show, they made balloon creations for the excited boys and girls. Some of the Key Clubbers painted faces while others manned the game tables. Southern Maryland Crabs mascot, Pinch the Chic-Fil-A cow and McGruff and Scruff, the Crime Dogs, wandered around and entertained too. The best quote of the day came from one little girl who was smiling as she carried her bag of goodies out the door. She said, "I can't wait to come back next year"! Neither can we!
