Capital District Key Club Celebrates its 61st Annual District Convention with Over 975 Key Club Members, Advisors and Kiwanis Guests!

Our two most important Kiwanis products are our Community Service Projects and supporting Service Leadership Programs!

A Photo Essay by Past Governor Bob Cressy

The Capital District Key Club has just completed one of its most successful and the largest district Key Club gatherings in history. Over 975 people gathered in the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel, Arlington, Virginia, March 19th - 21st, 2010 to celebrate.

Have you ever been to a Service Leadership Program's District or International Convention? Both the CKI and the Key Club conventions are almost unable to be described. Attendees are there for many reasons but foremost are to represent their home clubs as delegates and leaders. They bring back ideas, enthusiasm and the spirit to lift their clubs to new highs of service, effectiveness, friendship and FUN! And they know how to do it!. You should see them GO! Well, if you haven't been to one, get your club to support your SLP club by helping to sponsor them with leadership support and some funding. It's worth every minute of your time and every dollar.

From the opening moments of their "Roman To Service" theme, to the 'Spirit Stick' for loudest division cheering (that is "screaming") at roll call, it was a blast! They are also a marvel to watch. They have learned "leadership skills" from one another, each passing them on from past Key Clubbers and, hopefully, from your direct Kiwanis leadership model as well. They understand that working together ... makes it work.

Sometimes I hear a Kiwanis Club or two ask what they get from Division and District involvement. One answer might be seeing each club's level of involvement with SLP and each other. I think when attending these SLP events, you can see what their club to club involvement brings them, what projects work (or what sometimes don't), and it enables them to see just how many people, including their peers are working for them,
And they see what good their community service is doing for others.

Sometimes, too, next to directly participating in their conventions, some pictures might help give us the "Spirit Stick" ourselves. So, take a look at the photo essay and I think you'll see what I meant. Enjoy! Catch the Spirit! Pass the word! They're ready for you!

You'll be proud. They are. Thanks.
