Mount Vernon Club Distributes Books

On June 19, the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club (MVKC) distributed the books they donated to about 140 three to five year olds at the Gum Springs Head Start Center on Fordson Road. Maxine Maloney, the Early Childhood Education Administrator, and Agnathea Wright, the Education Manager, organized the classes of youngsters, who came in one class at a time, picked their own book of choice from the wide selection offered, and then had a MVKC member write his or her name on a label that was pasted into the new book. Then the children were asked to take the book home and read it tonight with their parents. The youngsters were very happy to be able to choose their very own new books. MVKC President Bruce Malkin, and members Lisa Caputo, Betty Puscheck, and Joanne Malkin all participated in the event.
