Coastal Delaware Police Officer Recognition

by Rosemary Cummings

The Coastal Delaware Kiwanis recognized Captain John G. Cornwell as Police Officer of the Quarter, for his exemplary service, example, and work ethic in the Milton Police Department and for the Milton Community. Capt. Cornwell has been a police officer for over 25 years, working previously in Rehoboth, Milford and Dover Police Departments, with over ten years in the Milton Police Department. Capt. Cornwell has been married to his wife Jackie and they have four daughters and one son. Complementary with the Kiwanis mission, Captain Cornwell works with the school children in the community, often turning negative behavior into positive behavior after meeting and talking with the children. Before coming to Milton he was active in the Alarm program in Milford and now the DARE program in Milton. An active member of the Milton's Neighborhood Watch, Capt. Cornwell often advises Milton citizens how to better protect themselves and build a safer community.

As a police officer, Capt. Cornwell is a Certified Instructor in many aspects of police work and is always there for his fellow officers, knowledgeable and responsive to their questions, providing professional guidance and support on policy and procedures. In his orderly manner, he cares for the department environment including the building and the equipment. Noteworthy is his knowledge of computer technology which is invaluable in today's police environment.

Just as with the Objects of Kiwanis, Capt. Cornwell, an active member of his church community, his spiritual beliefs guide him in his life and his police career.
