MCV Kiwanis Family Care Center "Shower" Hosted by Kiwanis Club of West Richmond
by Judy Hackler
You are invited to an MCV Kiwanis Family Care Center "Shower" on November 4th hosted by the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond. The meeting will be held at MCV with the specific location to be announced. Parking will be provided. We will have typical "shower" foods available for attendees
For more than two years, members of the Kiwanis Clubs from the Heart of Virginia Region of the Capital District worked to raise $100,000 to renovate and furnish a family care center at the Virginia Commonwealth University Children's Medical Center. The area offers family members of critically ill children a place where they can feel at home - to watch TV, do laundry, take a moment to relax, or fix a snack without leaving the pediatric floor of the hospital. The new Kiwanis Family Care Center was dedicated in 2006, but is consistently in need of more items to provide for the many family members who take advantage of its availability.
Here are items that have been requested for the MCV Kiwanis Family Care Center: Fun Band-aids (latex free); Coloring books; Crayola markers & crayons; Action figures (no Barbie dolls please); Games (Sorry, Connect Four, Jenga, playing cards, Uno cards); Word Search Books (large print, especially); Lego sets; Stuffed animals; Arts & crafts kits
(Please note: Due to infection control guidelines, all of the items must be new, and infant toys should be well-known brands for safety reasons.)
The following items may be gently used: DVD's and Nintendo Game Cube games (rated E - T, nothing M)
Please start shopping now!
Monetary donations or gift cards are always accepted and appreciated, as they can be used to fulfill specific patient needs. Checks should be made out to VCU Children's Medical Center and "Child Life" should be noted on the memo line.
If you have items to donate, or if you would like to attend the shower, please contact Tracie Grady (Secretary for the West Richmond Kiwanis). Work: 804-747-4971 or Cell: 804-305-0322 TracieGrady@Clearwire.net or Tracie@VSAE.org
