KIWANIS RECEIVES MUSTANG FOR BOARDWALK RAFFLE

Pictured are Kiwanis members as they check out the new 2012 Metallic Red Mustang Convertible the club purchased to be raffled off to raise funds for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City Scholarship Foundation. The gorgeous 6 cylinder, 305 Horsepower, automatic 6 speed Mustang, which gets up to 30 miles per gallon, will appear on the Ocean City Boardwalk at the raffle ticket booth beginning with the first day of SPRINGFEST on Thursday May 5th until it is awarded to a winner on the last day of SUNFEST on Sunday September 25th. Kiwanis Hears about "Home of the Brave"

The guest speaker at the Weekly Kiwanis meeting in the Ocean Pines Community Center on Wednesday April 27th was Tina Pearson, the Founder/CEO of "Home of the Brave", a local free vacation program for combat veterans and their families. Tina is pictured between Kiwanis President Roy Foreman to her left and Kiwanis Programs and Guest Speaker Chair Graham Caldwell to her right.

Tina, who works for Perdue, had a great idea she made a reality, providing a place for a respite for returning combat veterans in appreciation for their service to their country. The only criteria are that the veterans must have served within 18 months of their return or be recuperating from wounds received in the war. At her expense, Tina has turned her three bedroom farmhouse into vacation housing for these vets to enjoy a week of leisure near the ocean.

For more information about "Home of the Brave" check the website at www.thehomeofthebrave.us or contact her at info@thehomeofthebrave.us.

There will be a fundraiser Poker Run on May 14th sponsored by the Ocean City Fraternal Order of Police in support of "Home of the Brave". Registration is $20 and takes place before the event from 10:30 AM until Noon. For more information about the Poker Run go to v.row@mchsi.com.

Last week, the Kiwanis Builders Club at Berlin Intermediate School, comprised of students, presented Blankets of Honor, which they make as one of their projects, to Tina for the veterans. What a wonderful concept.

Kiwanis Fundraising Supports Scholarships

If there's a season, there's a reason for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City to hold a fundraiser in support of their programs to "Serve the Children of the World".

It was Spring, and so the Annual Italian Dinner was held at DeNovo's Trattoria in Ocean Pines on Sunday April 10th. Pictured on the left are Bob and Kelli Beck and their family, owners and operators of DeNovo's, who support the Kiwanis Club Italian Dinner by providing the food and their restaurant for patrons of the Italian Dinner.

Seated (L to R) are Rita Landis and Carol Rosen as they enjoy the great food. Bob and Kelli have been recognized as "Honorary Kiwanians" for their yearly support, helping to raise funds for scholarships which the proceeds of the dinner provide for deserving local high school senior students.

Also pictured are Members of the Kiwanis Club and the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club, which is also an Kiwanis organization, who helped to serve the hungry crowd at the three seatings that accommodated up to 110 people at each. The Italian Dinner was co-chaired by Charlotte Cathell and Ralph Chinn. Thank You to all for your continued support!

Summer is coming! Look for the bright red 2011 Mustang Convertible on the Ocean City boardwalk. The Kiwanis Club is selling raffle tickets for the car starting at Sunfest on May 5th and ending the last day of Sunfest in September 2011 when it will be awarded to the WINNER. The proceeds for the car raffle also provide yearly scholarships for local students.

Decatur Key Club Hosts Kiwanis Club

Every Spring the Stepen Decatur Key Club hosts an interclub visit of its sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City at the high school with a breakfast meeting in the School cafeteria. Pictured are Key Club members addressing the group of Kiwanis and Key Club members to inform them about the programs and events since the start of the 2010-2011 school year. Key Club is the high school club of Kiwanis International after school organization which promotes the growth of young adults through service to their community. This year the SDHS Key Club has held fundraisers, held another very successful annual Blood Drive at the school, and sent a full contingency to the Capital District Key Club Convention held in Arlington, Virginia in March 2011.

Pictured surrounded by members of the Kiwanis Club are Front Row: (L to R) Nicole Ligor, Michelle Rosinski, Miranda Oliver, Christine Timko. Back Row: (L to R) Taylor Tobak (President), Carly Bodolus, Kelly Cosgriff, Katherine Bakke (Editor), Lydia Logan (Secretary), Maura Smith (Treasurer), Natalie Cieri, and Rachel Thompson who attended the convention.

OP CUB SCOUT PACK CELEBRATES

The Ocean Pines Cub Scout Pack 480 cubs are pictured outside the Ocean Pines Community Center at the celebration of the 2011 Blue and Gold Dinner held in March of 2011. The Cub pack is very active with a large number of boys participating in Scouting. On March 29th they also participated in a cleanup day at the Isle of Wight Park off the Route 90 bridge going to Ocean City with which the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City participated as part its Project One Day for Kiwanis. The Kiwanis Club is also a sponsor of Cub Pack 480.
