Stephen Decatur High School Key Club and Kiwanis

by David Landis

Key Clubs are the high school level of Kiwanis International and Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, Maryland has one of the finest. On April 28th, members of the parent Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City attended an annual event where members of the parent club attend a breakfast given by the Stephen Decatur High School Key Club. As in past years Worcester County officials attended.

County Commissioners Judy Boggs, Linda Busick, James Purnell and Council President Bud Church were there along with School Board members Sara Thompson and Bob Rothermel as well as Superintendent of Schools Doctor Jon Andes and Assistant Superintendant Ed Barber (they are seated at the front left table in the above picture).

This year the outgoing leaders of the Key Club were honored and the new leaders were installed.

Pictured above, are the outgoing officers being honored by Key Club Advisor, Anna DiGiulian on the left. They are (L to R) Bonnie Eisman, Marcy Wiggins, Taylor Tobak, Sinead O'Brien and Kelly Mullholland.

Pictured above, are the new officers being installed by SDHS Key Club member Brooke Harman, (at the podium) who is also the new Division Lt. Governor of the Capital District Key Club. To her left are (L to R) Kiwanis Club liaisons to the key Club, Roy Foreman and Dick Feeser, Key Club Advisor Anna DiGiulian and to her right (L to R) President Taylor Tobak, VP Jenna Brower, Secretary Lydia Logan, Treasurer Maura Smith, Editor Katherine Bakke, and Editor Rachel Thompson.

During the current school year the SDHS Key Club did many projects among which are a UNICEF fundraiser, two blood drives of which the 2nd of the school year had 75 pints of blood donated and is the largest amount for one day on the Eastern Shore. There are so many other great events which can be accessed by visiting the website of the Kiwanis Club of Greater OP-OC at www.kiwanis.org/Club/oceanpines and viewing the link to the SDHS Key Club. It's very interesting to see these young adults at work in service to their community.

At the breakfast, Dick Feeser, who has been a Kiwanian for 40 years and facilitated the formation of the SDHS Key Club, as well as two other Key Clubs during his service, said, "If you want a great example of what a relationship between a parent Kiwanis Club and its Key Club should be, SDHS Key Club is it."
