Albemarle High School Key Club Holds Initiation and Awards Ceremony

On May 25, 2011, just days preceding commencement, the leaders of the Albemarle High School Key Club held a new member initiation ceremony and awards night in the school's cafeteria. More than 200 Key Clubbers, their families and friends, school faculty, and an "interclub" consisting of four members of the sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville enjoyed a fabulous pot luck meal prepared by the finest cooks in Albemarle County.

Outgoing AHS Key Club Vice President Aleksandra Olekhnovich, who is also a winner of the annual J. T. Graves Memorial Youth Scholarship presented by the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville, is shown conducting the initiation ceremony.

Outgoing President Melissa Leider received an engraved Jefferson Cup from Key Club Faculty Advisor Teresa Tyler in recognition of her outstanding leadership.

Also pictured is Incoming President Annie Lopez, showing off her award for outstanding leadership and service as a sophomore.

The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville sponsors five Key Clubs in the area and a CKI Club at the University of Virginia, providing more than 400 youth with service and leadership opportunities not only in Central Virginia but around the world. Maggie Wilson of AHS is the incoming Lieutenant Governor of Key Club Division 5A and with support from Kiwanis is attending the 68th Annual Key Club International Convention held in Phoenix, Arizona this summer.
