Rockville Inducts Five New Members

by JohnTyner

We had the pleasure of bringing five new members into our club as a result of our June membership extravaganza.  Each person brings a wealth of varied experiences for enriching our basket of service projects. Sean-Christopher Riley comes to us through our efforts with our Chase Partnership breakfasts; having had our breakfasts he has wanted to make his contribution to what we do for the homeless.  Sean has an Associate Degree from Montgomery College, is a certified geriatric nurse, and is a writer and vendor for "Street Sense," a Washington, DC newspaper for the poor and homeless. Dr. John McLaughlin, a Scots and a retired college professor, is an adjunct lecturer at Montgomery College, and is a DJ on WMUC-FM with a weekly 2-hour program of British Isles, blues and bluegrass music called "Roots and wings."  Bill Nickel is retired from the World Bank and from FONZ (Friends of the National Zoo), is a Master Gardener and organizes collections for Bikes for the World.  He also has the good fortune of being the immediate neighbor of two Rockville Kiwanians (so recruit YOUR neighbors). Dr. Angela Rabatin is a business professor at the University of Maryland University College and at Prince Georges Community college, has taught in the US and Taiwan and is an authority on the 50-plus age group (our club, hmmm) and is a Business Smarts columnist for the "Washington Business Journal."  And finally, Jim Brigl is Executive Director of Sarah's Circle, a non-profit independent living residence and Wellness center for low-income seniors in Washington, DC.  Jim is the classic example of one of our speakers who liked our club so much that when I asked him to join, he did right on the spot (another hint, folks).  We are gathering a head of steam for our August membership drive, so I hope to report that we've added new members to our current +8 net growth this year.
