Poquoson Kiwanis Teenager of the Year

Scott Zimmerman, Capital District Lieutenant Governor, visited the Kiwanis Club of Poquoson to congratulate Megan Nickerson, Division 23's nominee for 2009 Teenager of the Year, at their weekly breakfast meeting. Megan is a senior at Poquoson High School and currently stands number 6 in her class with a 4.25 grade average. Megan is Head Captain varsity soccer, co-captain varsity field hockey, Class Secretary, Secretary of the Spanish Honor society, and was Co-Captain of Junior Varsity Field Hockey as a freshman. She was selected as Female Athlete of the Fall Season as a Junior and was elected Homecoming Queen as a Senior. Megan is also a music enthusiast and made All-District Chorus for three years and received the Chorus Showmanship Award as a Junior. With the initial selection as the Poquoson nominee, the Kiwanis club awarded her a $1,000 scholarship. Winning the division 23 title netted an additional $500 scholarship. Final selection for Kiwanis Capital District Teenager of the Year, which carries a $2,000 prize, will be announced. Miss Nickerson will be attending the University of Richmond to study business and marketing in the Fall.
