Delegates Pass Dues Amendment

Delegates to the 92nd annual Kiwanis Capital District Convention overwhelming passed an amendment to the Capital District bylaws, which changed the amount of District dues to $32.00 per year, effective October 1, 2010. New Gov & Gov-Elect for 2010-2011

At the 2010 Capital District Convention recently held in Lynchburg, VA, Tom Varner and Jeffrey Wolff, both of whom have impressive Kiwanis resumes, were elected to lead our District for the next two years.

Tom, who will be the new Gov. for the upcoming 2010-2011 administrative year, lives with his wife, Lin, in Ashland and has taught Criminal Justice for years at J. Sargent Reynolds Community College. He is a member of the Ashland Club and has served as District Trainer.

Jeffrey is our youngest Gov-Elect in years. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Fairfax. A member of the Tysons Corner Kiwanis Club, Jeffrey is VP of US Operations for Infonic, a British software company.

Field of Dreams: Bethesda Club Benefits Special Needs Baseball Players

On Saturday, the 28th of August, Bethesda Kiwanis and Kiwanians from all the clubs in Division 17 held a special event. There was an exhibition game with disabled children playing baseball.

Charlottesville Key Clubber Named Kiwanis Capital District Teenager of the Year

Nicole Muller, a rising senior at Western Albemarle High School and a member of the WAHS Key Club, has been selected as the winner of the Kiwanis Capital District Teenager of the Year Award. Nicole is the founder of the Neighbors-4-Neighbors Food Drive, which was launched in August of 2009 in order to collect food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, whose supplies have been depleted by extraordinary demand in these tough economic times...more

Governor's Message

My year as your Governor is now drawing to a close after almost a two year journey. It all began in the summer of 2008 when my wife and I were discussing the merits of running for the office of Governor of the Capital District.  I had just overcome a major medical situation in my life, I had been retired for two years and the time seemed right to run for the office of Governor. ..more


Members of the Tabb Kiwanis Club collected the back to school supplies and donated to Tabb Elementary School on August 18 to ensure all students have what they need for a good start. This is one of the many community projects undertaken by the Kiwanis Club of Tabb, VA.

KIF Awards Africa Initiative $19K

Capital District Committee on International Understanding

At its meeting in June, the Kiwanis International Foundation Board of Trustees awarded the Capital District $19 thousand for the Initiative for Africa. This amount more than matches the $18,400 raised for this project so far by the District Committee on International Understanding....more


The Kiwanis Club of Frederick assisted with a $2500 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County, along with other businesses,  in providing school supplies to those needy chlldren in the Frederick area.  Pictured, left to right, are Frederick Kiwanians Jim Green, Bill Conley, Mike Hosford and Dunbar Ashbury.  Miss Nikera Means is shown at the table with items that were included in the backpack supplies.  Patrick Gunnin, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club, was also present for the presentation.
