KIF Capital District Annual Report 2009-2010

by Scott Zimmerman

Kiwanis International Foundation benchmark is $5.00 per Kiwanis member annually.

As of July 31st 2010, 142 Kiwanis Clubs from Capital District out of a total of 176 clubs have made a contribution to the Kiwanis International Foundation annual fund. 34 clubs have made no contribution.

  • 7 divisions have met the annual per member goal of $5.00 or more per Kiwanian: Divisions 1, 10, 11, 17, 20, 22 and 23.
  • 5 additional Divisions are within an eyelash of reaching that goal: Divisions 4, 9, 12, 18,and 19.
  • Capital District is averaging $4.15 per member and has contributed $27,330.00 thus far compared to $34,246.00 in fiscal year 2008-2009.
  • Since 2004 the Capital District has received grants from the Kiwanis International Foundation totaling over $156,853.00. This includes a $50,000.00 grant for a Virginia Tech Scholarship fund in the name of CKI member Ryan Clark who died in the Virginia Tech shootings as well as grants to clubs throughout the Capital District from The Kiwanis Club of Bristol ($2000.00) through the Kiwanis Club of Tuckahoe ($18,000.00) and The Kiwanis Club of Harbor Front (two grants at $15,000.00 each for a total of $30,000.00). Capital District International Understanding Committee just received a grant of $19,000.00 for its Initiative for Africa program to help children and families.
  • Based on the average annual gift per member the Kiwanis International Foundation gives $500.00 matching scholarships to The Capital District. Based on our annual gifts from the last fiscal year (2008-2009), which averaged over $5.00 per Kiwanis Member, Capital District received $2,500.00 for 5 scholarships. If we reach the $5.00 per member level this year we will receive 6 $500.00 scholarships for a total of $3000.00.
  • KIF also grants a $25.00 scholarship to every Key Club member who attends Key Leader which could be valued as high as $4,000.00 this coming year for the two scheduled Key Leader events.

On behalf of the Kiwanis International Foundation Board of Directors and all of the members of the Kiwanis International Foundation (all Kiwanians), thank you to those of you who have already made your annual contribution to KIF. For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to contribute to the annual fund campaign, please consider giving now... prior to the end of September (Fiscal Year 2009/2010), and help Capital District continue to help children both around the world and right here in our own back yard!

Yours in Kiwanis Service Today and Tomorrow,
