Kiwanis Rings the Bell For Salvation Red Kettle

Every year around Thanksgiving, the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign begins collecting donations in the familiar Red Kettle all around the area to help those in need and make for a happier holiday season. Many clubs and organizations, as well as individuals, volunteer to RING THE BELL. Pictured is Kiwanian Bill Long of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City as he rings the bell at the Wal-Mart on Rt. 50 in Berlin, Maryland. Members of the Kiwanis Key Club of Stephen Decatur High School also join in, manning the kettle and bell after school. Kiwanis has been recognized several times for their work in the Red Kettle Campaigns of years past. Here's to a Happy Holiday Season for all!

B.I.S. Builders Club Visits Kiwanis

Berlin Intermediate School has a Builders Club which is the Kiwanis Club for students at their grade level. They are sponsored by the parent Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City and they were the "guest speakers" on December 7th at the weekly Kiwanis meeting in the Ocean Pines Community Center. The Builders Club is very active as they explained when the club's officers showed off some of their projects.

Pictured are (L - R) Treasurer Sarah Wenzel, Secretary Samantha Stephan, V.P. Kyla Taylor, Kiwanis President Mike Morton, Kiwanian and B.I.S. Builders Club Faculty Advisor Jane Slotter, and President Jake Ginther. Sarah and Samantha are holding two of the 25 Kiwanis Dolls they make for Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin which doctors use with small children to explain how and where on the body they will be doing treatments or operations. Displayed on the front of the table are two of the blankets made by the students for the wounded veterans who stay at the local "Home of the Brave". Each wounded veteran receives one of these colorful and beautiful blankets. In addition, the Builders Club works on project for Diakonia, such as providing Halloween Goody Bags for residents while they are temporarily staying at the shelter. They also do other maintenance projects around their school. These dedicated young leaders are very busy and learning to serving their community and fellow students.

Sarah Wenzel missed the officer installation done last month at her school by Kiwanis President Mike Morton, therefore, he installed Sarah as Secretary of the B.I.S. Builders Club at the meeting.

Kiwanis member and liaison to the B.I.S. Builders Club, Peg Morton, then presented a check for $500 to Jane Slotter for Berlin Intermediate School to use in support of their programs. Keep up the good work!

Kiwanis & Key Club Decorate OP Christmas Tree

Christmas is evident in White Horse Park in Ocean Pines. Many of the clubs are decorating Christmas trees for the holidays.

Pictured are tree trimmers (L-R) Stephen Decatur High School Key Club members Advisor Anna DiGiulian, President Kathrine Bakke, and Secretary Natalie Cieri with Kiwanians Peg Morton, Jackie Todd and Barb Peletier. Some of the ornaments were made by the SDHS Key Club, the Builders Club from Berlin Intermediate School and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City resulting in the beautifully decorated tree. The tree lighting ceremony happened Friday December 2nd. Stop by and see all the wonderful work done by local clubs and organizations. Happy Holidays!
