Time to Register for New Orleans International Convention: June 28-July 1, 2011
by Linwood Watson
Have you registered for the convention in New Orleans? If not, what are you waiting for? The on-line registration form is up and running, so sign up early!
The Capital District has a candidate for Vice President. International Trustee Jerry Peuler needs as many Capital District members/delegates to attend this convention. Some people may say that running for office above the District Governor is a personal choice. It goes well beyond that, however. When a District has a member on the International Board, we get to have direct input and first-hand knowledge on International's affairs. As you may already know, each club is allowed to send two delegates to the International Convention. Have your club to take a look at your administrative budget, to see if your club can help defray the expenses of your delegates. Kiwanians attending the convention can attend informational sessions and bring back valuable knowledge to the club. Such knowledge can often be of valuable help in your membership retention and growth efforts.

Besides the business of Kiwanis, New Orleans is a fun city! I have a New Orleans Official Visitors Guide for 2011-2012, and I'm reviewing it as I write this article. There are a lot of tours that have been planned for convention-goers, and there will be great entertainment during the convention. Have you ever seen Aaron neville or Branford Marsalis perform? And there are plenty of shops to visit even if you don't plan to spend a lot of money.
I'll be attending some of the Mid-winter Conferences. I will bring some material and will share some of my personal experiences about New Orleans. I'll keep my eye on our District's registration count to see who registers early.
I'll see you in New Orleans. Maybe you'll even see me dressed up in this regalia! Let the good times roll!
