Lynchburg, Virginia will again be the site of Kiwanis’ Capital District Convention on August 20 through August 22, 2010. The Lynchburg Club is the host club with members of the Fort Hill club joining in planning for the convention.

Dana Cable 1943-2010

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Frederick Kiwanian Dr. Dana Cable. Dr. Cable was a long-time Kiwanian and had served as Frederick Club Pres., Div. 9 Lt. Gov. Governor, Capital District Governor, and in 2002 he was elected to a three year term as Kiwanis International Trustee. He was also a Certified Trainer, and he served on the Kiwanis International Education Committee.

Visitation will be at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Wednesday, August 4, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 5, at 10 a.m. in the Coffman Chapel on Hood's campus.

Governor's Message

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Past Gov. and Past KI Trustee Dana Cable. Not only was he a good Kiwanian, but a good friend as well. On behalf of the Capital District, I extend my condolences to Dana's wife, Sylvia, and the entire Cable family.

As you know, the District Convention (DCON) is just around the corner, August 20-22 in Lynchburg, VA. I hope you are coming to this exciting event. As you know, there are excellent training sessions, good speakers at the breakfast, lunch and dinner, great fellowship with other Kiwanians and a very important House of Delegates session on Saturday, Aug 21. Ocean Pines - Ocean City Club "Dog Team" Returns

Ocean Pines Maryland celebrated July 4th as always with a big get together at the Sports Core area in the Pines and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines - Ocean City was there with the "Dog Team" selling hot dogs and refreshments to raise funds for their scholarship fund. Rehoboth Kiwanis Food Drive

Father/Son Team up to Lead Kiwanis in Frederick, MD

For the first time, a father and son team have lead Frederick Kiwanis Clubs in the same administrative year. Senior Ryan Muffi was President of the Tuscarora High School Key Club, a leadership program sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick which is presided over by his father, Bill Muffi.
