Darryl Whiten, Director, Electronic Monitoring/Outreach Supervisor Program, Commonwealth of Virginia, 2OL Judicial District Court Service Unit, Department of Juvenile Services, Leesburg, VA., was a recent speaker to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. He spoke to the group about his involvement with kids in the youth basketball program in Frederick County and the programs offered to these young people. He also spoke about his role as a probation officer and his job to help shape and mold those youngsters who have come under his jurisdiction in the legal area. Dick Ishler, center, Turning Point Real Estate; Ginny MacColl, right, Senior Account Executive Nassau Broadcasting, were recent speakers to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. Both, members of C.A.K.E.S. (Citizens Against Kemptown Electric Substation), spoke about Allegheny Electric's PATH project of locating a substation in the Kemptown area, why it is being proposed, cost to customers, health and safety issues if the plant is erected., and the affect of property values in the area. They highlighted their talk with a power point presentation showing the 42 acres the station would cover if completed and the route the transmission lines would take from West Virginia to Maryland. The First Annual Presidential Pet Election for Frederick County was the topic of guest speaker Phil Heffler's talk to the Kiwanis Club of Frederick. The Election, a fun fundraising event, wll benefit the Frederick County Humane Society and the Frederick County Chapter, American Red Cross. There are three Party Affiliations: Elephant Party, Donkey Party and Flea Bag Party, under which one may enter their pet. The event is being promoted by Catoctin Charities. Mr. Heffler, Financial Adivsor with First National, had "Quincy" say a few words to the group.
